With the mental health numbers skyrocketing and watching people around us craving much needed perspective, we decided to launch Mahara – a contemporary lifestyle brand with a mission to create products and experiences that offer people a stepping-stone into a world of mindful practices and personal transformation. From years of personal experience in meditating, breath work, and journaling we came to deeply understand the healing power of mindfulness. Mahara’s first product, The Human Being Journal, was created as a direct response to the global pandemic to help people alleviate stress and anxiety and reflect holistically on their life. The entire journal was created by us (page by page) as we intentionally thought about what exactly the world needed right now. Especially as many people struggling could not afford mental health treatments or even go see their therapists because of lockdowns. As avid journalers ourselves, we knew that it is scientifically proven that journaling is one of the most cost-effective ways to deal with anxiety and stress. Despite journaling for years, we never found a journal that was quite the right fit – so we decided to bootstrap the business, and put our time, love, sweat and tears into creating one ourselves. It was important for us to create something that could help people during this unprecedented time. It has been a true labor of love.
